Kim Williams Appointed ABC Chair
Former News Corp CEO to Lead Australian Broadcaster
Kim Williams, the former CEO of News Limited, has been appointed as the new chair of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
The appointment was announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday, July 20, 2023. Williams will succeed Ita Buttrose, who has held the position since 2019.
Williams has a long and diverse career in the media, arts, and business sectors. He was CEO of News Limited from 2000 to 2007, and has also held senior positions at the BBC and the Seven Network.
Williams is also a director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian National Maritime Museum. He is a former chairman of the Australian Film Commission and the Australian Children's Television Foundation.
In his new role, Williams will be responsible for overseeing the ABC's operations and ensuring its independence and impartiality.
